Tips On Saving Your Battery Power

Most phones today come with a couple of cool features but there is one thing many persons keep complaining over time, battery power.

Although most phone companies are doing their best in providing good, quality batteries. It just seems that they aren't trying enough.

There are a number of things or should I say activities that suck out the hell out of our batteries.

Today let's look at ways we can extend our battery life.

Here we go,

1. Never Charge your Phone on a go

We are all guilty of the habit of charging our phones till it's 100% full, well I've come to let you know that it's wrong.

Experiment tells us that Partial charging is just fine for lithium-ion batteries and can actually have some positive benefits for cell longevity.

Scientifically, When Li-ion batteries are closer to empty, they draw constant current and operate at a lower voltage. This voltage gradually increases as the cell charges up, levelling off at around a 70% charge before the current begins to fall until the capacity is full.

In simple terms, I mean Small but regular top-ups are much better for Li-ion batteries than long full charge cycles.

Although this might be unpractical to some people, if you care about your battery life then you'll adhere to this rule.

2. Never Idle Charge your Phone.

What I mean by this is simply never charge your phone overnight or keep your phone charging even after it's full.

Reason been that,

1. charging of a full battery can cause plating of the metallic lithium, which in return reduces stability in the long term and can lead to system-wide malfunctions and reboots.

2. it leaves the battery at the higher stress voltage when at 100%

3. It creates excess heat caused by wasted power dissipation.

Normally a device should stop charging when it reaches 100%, leaving it to continue charging or topping up the battery every now and again is a very bad practice which could kill your battery life span.

3. Avoid overloading your Phone

I'll say this bluntly never use your phone (i.e watching a video or gaming) while charging.

Do not I repeat do not drain your battery significantly the same time as being charged

They are bad for your batteries.

The best way to avoid loading your phone is it to turn your device off while charging.

But it’s probably more realistic to keep the workload very light while the device is plugged in, leaving it to idle most of the time. Remember to unplug it once the battery is topped up enough.

TIPS

4. Turn your Screen's brightness down

Really, keeping your screen brightness down can actually help you save some battery power 'cause Screen battery draws a significant amount of power.

5. Let your phone go to sleep faster

Screen timeout is the time your smartphone takes to automatically go into a sleep mode in the absence of any activity.

Keep the screen timeout of your phone to a minimum.

6. Close un-used Apps

Apps that are doing autonomous communication in the background are the ones that drain the battery the most.

Apps that need to constantly update in order to get info e.g emails, news or weather alert app needs t be cut off when not in use.

Basically, close any app after use, instead of leaving them on.

7. Turn off location services

Always turn off all location, GPS, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi when not in use as they suck up a lot of battery power, maybe not a lot but they do suck up a little.

8. Turn On Power Saving Mode

Many phones have this feature, which I personally recommend you put on, not just when your phone battery is about to die down.

The good thing about this feature is it's customizable.

9. Use a Third-Party App

Third-party apps these days offer a lot of cool features,

Ranging from cooling feature to features that point out power-sucking or draining apps

10. Avoid Overheating

Temperature is an equally key contributor to battery longevity. Just like high voltages, high temperatures stress the battery and make it lose capacity far more quickly than when kept at lower temperatures.

A cell kept between 25 – 30 degrees Celsius (77 – 86 degrees Fahrenheit) should retain around 80 percent of its capacity

A battery dwelling in a full state-of-charge exposed to a high temperature is the worst of ceneriors and the number one thing to avoid when charging your phone.

So no leaving your phone under your pillow to charge at night or plugged in on the dashboard of your car on a hot day.

Well, this is pretty much it, although there are other tips but this are one of the best tips to saving your battrey power.

Never forget: Smaller regular charge cycles and keeping your phone cool are the key things to remember.
