OPINION: EDO ASSEMBLY CRISIS

As the feud in Edo politics lingers, it looks from all indication that the re-election of the Edo State governor wasn't only a daunting task, but also an impossible venture by the governor and his loyalist or followers, depending on how you see them.

Though, the governor made it clear he wasn't deter by the antics of the former party chairman, in the person of Comrade Adams Oshoimhole. However, his re-election bid is not only a victory for democracy, but also a victory for the people. Though, it seemed he was fighting a losing battle, as all signs indicated.

Prior to when the feud became intense and made common knowledge, 13 elected members of the house of assembly had refused to be inaugurated into the Edo State House of assembly due to the fact that, they were not happy with the choice of Hon. Okiri as the speaker of the house, as Okiri was not their choice and also not the choice of their principal; Comrade Adams Oshoimhole. The members claimed that, Okiri was the governor's choice, and as such they are not loyal to him. So, the thirteen member were absent at the inauguration ceremony, and as such were never inaugurated.

As if the issue on ground was not tough enough for the governor to handle, three of the already inaugurated members left the governor's camp and PDP as it was then, just less than a week before the election. That breaks the governor's heart, but the job must be done. Thankfully, he had the deputy governor, in the person of Hon. Phillip Shai'bu at his beck 'n' to lean on and to advise and guide him strategically.

As we all know, the election is over, the governor and his deputy have been re-elected. The question on everyone's lips is, what is going to happen to the thirteen members who refused to be inaugurated, and the three other members, who in the late hour joined them? Is their seats now vacant? Are they going to plead for the governor's mercy or they will go to court to secure their inauguration? You guess is as good as mine.
