The United State authorities under the leadership of Donald Trump have given their reasons for preferring South Korea’s trade minister Yoo Myung-hee as the director-general of the World Trade Organization over Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
According to the US trade representative in a statement to the organsation said, “The United States supports the selection of Korean Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee as the next WTO Director-General” owing to the fact that she is better suited for the post.
“This is a very difficult time for the WTO and international trade,” US said in support of Yoo Myung-hee who they believe ” has all the skills necessary to be an effective leader of the organization.”
“There have been no multilateral tariff negotiations in 25 years, the dispute settlement system has gotten out of control, and too few members fulfill basic transparency obligations, so the WTO are badly in need of a major reform"
“Must be led by someone with real, hands-on experience in the field,” it added...
