What to Do If You Drop Your Phone in Water

This is a mistake everybody would never want to make or experience but sometimes we could be unlucky and somebody mistakenly drops a cup of water on your phone or you dropped it in the kitchen sink, this could be scenarios

At this point for like 5 secs, we are like "oh my God!!!!😨😢😱", what have I done? and then we become a little bit disorganized and confused 😕😕 about what to do.

Well, that's why am here, to give tips on what to do.

Now, the first thing to do in this situation is

1. Remove the phone from the water immediately (obviously), as not doing so may cause further damage

2. Turn it off immediately because you don't want to risk the chance of getting your phone more damaged,

but if your phone is off no problem, you might also want to confirm if not sure

.

3. Remove your SIM and microSD cards or from their slots. If you have an older phone, you might be able to open up the back and remove the battery.

Moreover, since most current smartphones do not have removable batteries and are hard to disassemble, the best step would be to use a screwdriver to open most phones. If you have an iPhone, though, you’ll need a special “pentalobe” screwdriver.

Be careful here when opening the phone, as you can cause potential damage to the phone if not careful.

4. Use a cloth, sleeve or paper towel to dab your phone dry. Avoid spreading the liquid around, because that could push it into more of the phone's openings. Just soak up as much water as possible

.

5. If the water damage is more extensive, you can use a vacuum cleaner or an air compressor to carefully suck out water stuck in the cracks that are harder to get to. Make sure any small parts, such as the microSD card, SIM card, and battery, are out of the way before attempting this.

NEVER USE A Hair Drier for this purpose

6. Next, you can bury the phone in a ziplock bag full of uncooked rice for 2-3 days depending on the time period it would take your phone to completely dry.

The idea is to put it in an environment that will ease its drying process.

Rice is very good at absorbing humidity in the air, making the phone’s environment drier and hence helping dry out the device. But there are alternatives that could be better.

Among better options are silica gel packs, which are those little packets you often find in shoes or electronics boxes (and you can’t eat). It’s not like all of us have these laying around, though, but if you think ahead of time you, could get good deals on Amazon.

This step is usually something many people would just jump into but I'll advise NEVER jump into PUTTING your WET PHONE in RICE.

All you need to do is follow the above process.

7. Let your phone dry for a couple of days, don't be in a hurry. A mistake was made so wait to correct it.

8. After a couple of days, you can remove the phone from the rice, insert the battery and switch it on.

9. If your smartphone has turned on and it is running as it should, you should still keep a close eye on it for the next few days, to see if you notice anything out of the ordinary. Play some music to check the speakers and ensure the touch screen still responds as it should.

10. Now, if the phone doesn’t work, it’s time to take it to a professional and see if it can be repaired, but after this point, we have really done everything we could. Sometimes you just have to let the phone go, though!

What NEVER to do

  • Do not turn it on

  • Do not plug it in/try to charge it

  • Do not press any buttons or keys

  • Do not shake, tap or bang the phone

  • Do not blow on it. This could send water into other internal parts of the phone that it hadn't already reached, causing more damage in the process

  • Do not use a blow dryer - it can have the same effect as described above. Heat could also cause further damage.

TIP: YOU could always use a
Water-resistant/waterproof phones to avoid
any of all these
