How to Get Rid Of Scratches On A Phone

Updated: Aug 1, 2019

You would agree with me that one of the most annoying thing you can experience is a scratched or broken phone screen.

We try as much as possible to guard our screen but most times it just seems abortive,

But what can you do when such things happen? Do have to get another screen or get mad at yourself? In this post I want to share a secret on how you can get rid of scratches.

Please note that the below are for scratches not cracks. If you have major scratches and cracks on your screen, you're going to need to go to the pros or completely replace the screen.

The methods might work or not depending on the scratch.

Before trying any of these methods out, make sure you power down your phone, remove the battery (if you can) and seal the ports of your phone with tape to prevent liquid damage.

TAKE PRECAUTIONS BEFORE ENGAGING THE BELOW STEPS

1. Fill The Scratches On your Phone With Glue

You can use epoxy, Gorilla or super glue to fill in the scratches on your phone's screen.

The key is to use a small amount.

Firstly cover the ports of phone (Charging and headphone),

After covering the ports on your phone, use tape to protect the area around the scratch to prevent the glue from spilling into unscratched areas.

Apply a thin coat of glue in the area of the scratch.

Use a soft, flat but hard object like an old credit card to gently smooth the glue into the cracks.

Keep smoothing out the glue across the scratch until the glue hardens.

Once the glue has dried, use fingernail polish remover, dabbed onto a cotton ball to wipe away the excess glue, be careful to keep the liquid from running into the ports.

2. Toothpaste

Dab a small amount of toothpaste onto the end of a cotton swab or clean, soft cloth.

Gently rub the cotton swab or cloth in circular motions on the screen until you see the scratch go away.

After this, wipe your screen with a slightly dampened cloth to remove any excess toothpaste.

3. Use Baking Powder or a Baby Powder

Add little amount of either of the two to a small portion of water so as to form a paste

The mixture should be thick and not runny.

Rub the paste on the screen surface in a circular manner using a soft piece of cloth

Be careful not to water damage your phone.

4. Egg and potassium aluminum sulfate (Alum)

Mix one egg and one teaspoon of alum in a saucepan.

Heat to 150 degrees Fahrenheit.

Soak the fiber cloth in the egg and alum mixture.

Put the cloth on aluminum foil, and then place it into a 300-degree oven until the cloth is completely dry.

Take the cloth out of the oven and rinse it in cold water for 20 to 30 seconds.

Repeat the step above three times, and then let the cloth air-dry for 48 hours.

Now, use the cloth to remove scratches.

5. Using Cerium Oxide (Glass Polish)

Mix the powder slowly with water till it give you a paste light enough to soak the applicator

Don't forget to block all open spots.

The polish can do a number of things to your device if it seeps into any of the phone's holes, including the speaker, headphone jack or charger input. It can even endanger your phone's cam lens.

Dab a smooth polishing cloth in your cerium oxide mix, and rub the scratched area in a vigorous, circular motion. Check periodically to see how the scratch is looking.

Try not to rub too hard, there is nothing as painful as putting new cracks when you're trying to remove some.

After rubbing for like two minutes, wipe off the paste.

Prevention

Like they say prevention is better than cure. Preventing a crack is cheaper than repairing one.

You could prevent a crack by

  • Using a screen protector

  • Wiping regularly

  • Avoid placing in places where a scratch can be incurred
