List of Control Key Shortcuts from A-Z Using Ctrl

Ctrl+A → These two keys will select all text or other objects. Ctrl+B → Bold highlighted text. Ctrl+C → Copy any selected text or another object. Ctrl+D → Bookmark an open web page or open font window in Microsoft Word. Ctrl+E → Center text. Ctrl+F → Open find window. Ctrl+G → Open Find in a browser and word processors. Ctrl+H → Open the Find and Replace in Notepad, Microsoft Word, and WordPad Ctrl+I → Italicize text. Ctrl+J → View downloads in browsers and set justify alignment in Microsoft Word. Ctrl+K → Create a hyperlink for the highlighted text in Microsoft Word and many HTML editors. Ctrl+L → Select address bar in a browser or left align text in a word processor. Ctrl+M → Indent selected text in word processors and other programs. Ctrl+N → Create a new page or document. Ctrl+O → Open a file in most programs. Ctrl+P → Open a print window to print the page you're viewing. Ctrl+R → Reload page in browser or right align text in a word processor. Ctrl+S → Save the document or file. Ctrl+T → Create a new tab in an Internet browser or adjust tabs in word processors. Ctrl+U → Underline selected text. Ctrl+V → Paste any text or another object that has been copied. Ctrl+W → Close open tab in a browser or close a document in Word. Ctrl+X → Cut selected text or another object. Ctrl+Y → These keys will redo any undo action. Ctrl+End → Moves cursor to the end of a document instead of end of the line. Ctrl+Z → Pressing these two keys will undo any action. Ctrl+Esc → Open the Windows Start Menu. Ctrl+Tab → Switch between open tabs in browsers or other tabbed programs. Ctrl+Shift+Tab → Will go backwards (right to left).

Ctrl + Shift + Esc → Open Task Manager.

Ctrl + Alt +Tab → View open apps

Ctrl + Shift → Switch the keyboard layout.

Ctrl + F4 → Close the active window.

Ctrl+Ins → Copy selected item

Ctrl+Home Goes to beginning of document.

Ctrl+End → Will move the cursor to the end of a document. These shortcuts work with most documents, as well as web pages.

Windows key → Open or close Start Menu.

Windows key + A → Open Action center. (Win 10)

Windows key + C → Open Cortana in listening mode. (Win 10)

→ Open the Charms. (Win 8)

Windows key + D → Display or hide the desktop.

Windows key + E → Open File Explorer.

Windows key + G → Open Game bar when a game is open. (Win 10)

→ Cycle through desktop gadgets. (Win 8)

Windows key + H → Open the Share charm. (Win 8)

Windows key + I → Open Settings. (Win 10)

→ Open the Settings in Charms. (Win 8)

Windows key + J Switch between snapped apps. (Win 8)

Windows key + K → Open the Connect quick action. (Win 10)

→ Open Devices in Charms. (Win 8)

Windows key + L → Lock your PC or switch accounts.

Windows key + M → Minimize all windows.

Windows key + O Lock the screen orientation. (Win 8)

Windows key + P Change between the monitor and projection display types or how second screen displays computer screen. (Win 7 & 8)

Windows key + R → Open Run dialog box.

Windows key + S → Open Search. (Win 10)

Windows key + T → Set the focus on the Task bar icons. (Win 7 & 8)

Windows key + U → Open Ease of Access Center.

Windows key + X → Open Quick Link menu. (Win 8 & 10)

Windows key + Number → Open the app pinned to the task bar in the position indicated by the number.

Windows key + Left arrow key → Shrinks the window to 1/2 screen on the left side for side by side viewing. (Win 7 & 8)

Windows key + Right arrow key → Shrinks the window to 1/2 screen on the right side for side by side viewing. (Win 7 & 8)

Windows key + Up arrow key → When in the side by side viewing mode, this shortcut takes the screen back to full size. (Win 7 & 8)

Windows key + Down arrow key → Minimizes the screen. Also, when in the side by side viewing mode, this shortcut takes the screen back to a minimized size. (Win 7 & 8)

Windows key + Comma → Temporarily peek at the desktop. (Win 8 & 10)

Windows key + Ctrl + Left or Right arrow → Switch between virtual desktops.

Windows key + Ctrl + F4 → Close current virtual desktop. (win 7)

Windows key + Enter → Open Narrator. (win 7)

Windows key + Home → Minimize all but the active desktop window (restores all windows on second stroke). (Win 7 & 8)

Windows key + PrtScn → Capture a screenshot and save in Screenshots folder.

Windows key + Shift + Up arrow → Stretch the desktop window to the top and bottom of the screen. (win 7)

Windows key + Tab → Open Task view.

Windows key + "+" key → Zoom in using the magnifier. (Win 7 & 8)

Windows key + "+" key → Peek at the Windows desktop (Windows 8)

Windows key + "+" key → Snap a Windows App to the sides of the screen. Pressing it multiple times will switch between the right and left side of the screen or unsnap the app. (Windows 8)

Windows key + "-" key → Zoom out using the magnifier. (Win 7 & 8)

Windows key + 1-0 Pressing the Windows key and any of the top row number keys from 1 to 0 opens the program corresponding to the number of the program icon on the Taskbar. For example, if the first icon on the Taskbar Chrome, pressing windows key + 1 would open that program or switch to it if already open. (Win 7 & 8)


List of Control Key Shortcuts from A-Z using Alt

Alt + Tab → Switch between open apps.

Alt + Left arrow key → Go back.

Alt + Right arrow key → Go forward.

Alt + Page Up → Move up one screen.

Alt + Page down → Move down one screen.

Alt + F4 → Close the currently active program.

Alt + Enter → Open the properties for the selected item (file, folder, shortcut, etc.).

Alt + Esc Switch between open applications on Taskbar

Alt + Spacebar Drops down the window control menu for the currently open Windows program.

Alt + double-click → Display the properties of the object you double-click. For example, doing this on a file would display its properties.

Alt + Print Screen Create a screenshot only for the active program window in all versions of Windows. For example, if you opened the calculator and pressed these shortcut keys, only the calculator window would be created as a screenshot. If the Print Screen key is pressed alone, the whole screen will be made into a screenshot.

Shift + Home Highlights from current position to beginning of line.

Shift + End → Highlights from current position to end of line.

Shift + Del Will permanently delete any file or another object without throwing it into the Recycle Bin.


Apple Macintosh shortcut keys


Open Apple+Down → Opens the selected icon.

Shift+Click → Select the icon and add it to the set of those selected.

Tab → Highlight the next icon inside the folder, in alphabetical order.

Shift+Tab → Highlight the previous icon inside the folder, in alphabetical order.

Left arrow → Used when viewing by icon to select the icon to the left of the one highlighted.

Right arrow → Used when viewing by icon to select icon to the right of the one highlighted.

Up arrow → Used to select the icon above the one currently highlighted.

Down arrow → Used to select the icon below the one currently highlighted.

Open Apple + ? → Mac help.

Open Apple + E → Eject

Open Apple + Shift + Up Arrow → Used to direct the input focus to the desktop level.

Open Apple + M → Minimize window.

Open Apple + N → New finder window.

Open Apple + Shift + N → New folder.

Open Apple + W → Close the current window.

Open Apple + C → Copy the selected item to the clipboard.

Open Apple + X → Cut the selected item.

Open Apple + V → Paste item from the clipboard.

Open Apple + L → Make alias.

Open Apple + R → Show original item.

Open Apple + T→ Add to favorites.

pen Apple + O → Open the selected icon.

Open Apple + F → Display the find dialog box.

Open Apple + G →Repeat the last find operation.

Open Apple + Shift + G → Takes a snapshot of the screen and saves it to a PICT file.

Command + A → Select all text and objects.

Command + B → Change selected text to boldface.

Command + F → Open the Find window.

Command + I → Italicize the selected text.

Command + P → Open the Print dialog window.

Command + U → Underline the selected text.

Command + Shift + P → Open the Page Setup window, to change document parameters.

Command + Shift + Control + 3 → Capture screenshot of current screen and save to the Clipboard.


NOTE: You may be able to use the Command key in place of the "Open Apple" key in the shortcuts below for later versions of macOS.
